The front disks, front and rear pads required changing so I did some research on the internet and found better components for the XKR. As I already had the 'R' Performance Brembo brakes fitted I was able to upgrade the ventilated non-drilled front discs (Jaguar Part# C2N3428) to the ventilated cross-drilled discs (Jaguar Part# C2N3427) at no extra cost. The disks were sent off for Cryogenic treatment at Frozen Solid, a process that improves the braking stability and lifetime of the disks. I then found some high performance brake pads that were suitable, gave 40% better braking with a reduction in dust & noise. There were quite a few pads to choose from: Hawk Ceramic, EBC Redstuff, EBC Yellowstuff & Ferodo DS2500. The finally went for a set of EBC Redstuff front & rear brake pads but they did require a little adjustiment to make them fit into the Brembo calipers, 1 minute with a file and all was OK.
I recently replaced the front mesh grille & bumper with the newer Jaguar 2005 XKR style stainless steel grille and repositioned the number plate underneath the grille. I bought the Jaguar OEM 2005 XKR mesh grille, mounting pin and brackets direct from Jaguar (Part#C2N-2752, C2N-3273, C2N-3291 & C2N-3292). I bought the number plate plinth and bumper cover kit from Racing Green Cars (Part#2RSJG.B039900). I had to cut down the number plate as the plinth was a little smaller then the standard UK number plate. I also had to slightly reshape the plinth to fit to the shape of the Jaguar 2003 nose. This bumper cover kit came unfinished so I had to paint it matt black using Hammerite metal paint. To replace the mesh grille took some time as the nose, old grille & pumpers had to come off first.
I've run the XKR on EBC Redstuff for over a year and they ran nice and clean but a little noisy. I'm now trying the EBC Yellowstuff which and quieter but a little dirty.
I also keep on catching the front number plate plinth on curbs and things as it sits a little low so I'm looking for a replacement.
My nearside headlamp has started to flicker, any ideas?
I have just been quoted £299 (front) and £335 (rear) for each Pirelli P-Zero tyre but Jaguar are now also fitting the cheeper Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres at £205 and £199 each.
